This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use site server tools to build, host, track, and monitor transactions on an e-business site.

It applies to individuals who work in a web environment and who are responsible for using site server tools to maintain the integrity of an e-business site, and have a detailed technical knowledge, and highly-developed analysis and interpretation skills.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

select and describe, the devices required for a business site

summarise functions and features of tools relevant to:

firewalls and proxy servers as required

hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) servers

search engines

outline the security measures required for the site

explain the tools and products required for site construction

summarise the role of protocols related to the features and to functionality

explain the site-building considerations, in relation to a new versus an established business.

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the website technologies field of work, and include access to:

the server hardware

site server tools currently used in industry

an existing e-business website

the business expectations brief

the appropriate standards and current legislation.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
